Project Overview

A big player in the agricultural industry was facing a dispersed range of digital tools and services, and an increased presence of grain brokers in the market. They sought a new digital solution to support their customers in the trade and management of grain.

Project outcome

Using a human-centred approach, a new online experience was delivered to help farmers and purchasers manage the buying and selling of their grain. Customer validated designs and build-ready design documentation was produced for:

  • Public-facing grain price discovery tool to equip growers with the information and decision support tools to transact online with confidence.

  • Customer portal experience that allowed growers, grain advisors and purchasers to view and manage supply chain functions.

The customer portal designs enforces better digital management and engagement online, as the portal functions are relevant to their role, intuitive and easy to use. It also allows the client to continually build new features using established design patterns, and positions them for future growth through digital.

My Role

As a UX designer on this project I took on responsibility to manage the end to end design process for prioritised features each sprint. This included requirements gathering, design and iteration with client stakeholders, SME/customer validation and testing and writing functional specification documentation to hand over for build. I also had ownership over the backlog of design features, which I prioritised and maintained over the course of the project. There were many complexities in creating and designing the interface of the portal, including account linking and third-party access and current business processes such as grain ticket allocation.
